Global People's Assembly 2024 attended by New Myanmar Foundation
The New Myanmar Foundation (NMF) proudly attended the Global People’s Assembly 2024, a three-day virtual event held from September 22 to 24, which convened civil society organizations globally to discuss pressing issues and enhance collective advocacy for peace, justice, and sustainable development. During the assembly, NMF engaged in meaningful discussions aligned with its mission in Myanmar, particularly focusing on climate justice and inequalities affecting marginalized communities. Day 1 featured a Plenary Session highlighting joint efforts for global progress and sessions on climate finance and inequalities, while Day 2 delved into financing for development and defending civic space amid severe threats to freedoms in Myanmar. The final day emphasized youth leadership and provided valuable strategies for upcoming global events like the FFD4 Conference and COP summits.
Overall, NMF found the assembly an invaluable platform for sharing experiences, learning from international partners, and gaining perspectives crucial for its ongoing advocacy amid Myanmar’s political instability and human rights challenges. The organization is committed to applying the insights and strategies gained from the assembly to its humanitarian work and looks forward to further collaboration with global partners in the pursuit of peace, justice, and sustainable development.
