Condemnation of Military Airstrikes Resulting in 18 Civilian Deaths and Urgent Call for International Sanctions
The New Myanmar Foundation strongly condemns the recent airstrikes by the military junta, which have resulted in the tragic deaths of 18 innocent civilians, including children and a pregnant woman, across multiple locations in Myanmar. On September 6, in Nam Kham, Shan State, 11 people were killed, and 12 others injured when 500-pound bombs were dropped on a night market and Kyaw Phyu Hall. A child was killed the same day in Nung Cho Township when three planes dropped around 25 bombs on Shwe Maw Taw Village. On September 7, in Myaing Township, Magway Division, six more people, including a 10-year-old child, were killed, and four others injured when two 200-pound bombs were dropped on a school in Let Yet Ma Village.
These barbaric attacks on civilians, particularly children, highlight the military’s escalating reliance on air power to inflict terror, making immediate international action essential to cut off the fuel supply for their aircraft and impose sanctions on military-affiliated businesses and individuals to prevent further atrocities.
