276 Myanmar Civil Society Organizations Demand China End Support for the Illegal Junta and Uphold Democracy
The New Myanmar Foundation has joined 276 civil society organizations in urging China to cease its support for the illegal Myanmar junta. These organizations emphasize the critical need for China to stop undermining revolutionary forces and civil society in Myanmar. They assert that the Ethnic Resistance Organizations (EROs) are essential to the country’s revolution and future federal democracy, and China’s actions are prolonging the crisis and destabilizing the region.
The statement calls for China to recognize the National Unity Government (NUG) as the legitimate government, stop legitimizing the junta, and support international efforts to hold the junta accountable for its crimes. Furthermore, the organizations demand that China halt irresponsible foreign investments that fund the junta’s atrocities and apply maximum pressure on the military, including an immediate halt to arms transfers. The statement reflects the unified voice of Myanmar’s civil society in their fight for democracy and justice.
