36th Anniversary of 8888 Uprising Online Campaign
On August 8, 2024, the New Myanmar Foundation (NMF) and its partners conducted an online campaign to commemorate the 8888 Uprising. The event brought together 21 participants who engaged in a meaningful discussion about the history of Myanmar’s struggle for democracy, starting from the pivotal 8888 Uprising to the ongoing Nway Oo Revolution, which emerged following the military coup in February 2021.
Participants reflected on the significance of the 8888 Uprising, where thousands of brave citizens took to the streets in 1988 to demand democratic reforms, setting the foundation for Myanmar’s pro-democracy movement. The discussion then shifted to the Nway Oo Revolution, highlighting the resilience of the people in continuing the fight against the military junta, despite the immense challenges faced.
The campaign also addressed the ongoing struggles for human rights and democracy in Myanmar, emphasizing the need for sustained international support and solidarity. Participants shared strategies on how to navigate the current political landscape and reinforced their commitment to continuing the fight for a free and democratic Myanmar.
