NMF joined the Signing Petition Urging Japanese Government to Halt Funding Benefiting Myanmar Military

On August 6, 2024, the New Myanmar Foundation (NMF) and its partners joined in signing the petition urging the Japanese government to stop providing Official Development Assistance (ODA) and public funds that benefit the Myanmar military and fund its atrocities. Despite the Myanmar military’s attempted coup and ongoing human rights violations against the people, Japan continues to provide public funds, including ODA and Other Official Flows (OOF), which benefit the military and indirectly support the junta’s oppressive actions. NMF and its partners call on the Japanese government to reassess its financial support and align its actions with international standards of human rights and democracy. By ceasing the provision of funds that benefit the Myanmar military, Japan can take a crucial step in supporting the people of Myanmar in their fight for democracy and justice.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the leading organisers of this petition campaign. The petition can be joined through the following link, and credit goes to the Progressive Voice.
