On January 14, 2024, the New Myanmar Foundation conducted Operational Security Training Batch 3, led by Mr. Lwin Myint, with 19 participants, including 4 males, 13 females, and 2 individuals from diverse sectors like human rights activism and civil society. The training aimed to equip human rights defenders with essential knowledge and skills to protect their digital information and presence. Key topics included operational security concepts, threats, best practices, and security measures.

Participants engaged in discussions on practical security challenges, such as information compartmentalization and responses to potential interrogations by authorities, with strategies like SIM card rotation to mitigate surveillance risks. The training successfully enhanced participants’ ability to assess digital threats and implement best practices, thereby fortifying their resilience against intimidation tactics by the military junta. The session, with a notable gender disparity of 68% females and 21% males, highlights the need for targeted outreach to ensure balanced participation in future initiatives. Participant feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with 70% rating the course as “Extensive” and 30% as “Exceptional,” underscoring the training’s effectiveness in meeting expectations and providing comprehensive insights into operational security.
