Sewing Training Program (2022)
In 2022, the New Myanmar Foundation conducted 28 sessions of the free Basic Motorized Sewing Course, which equipped over 400 participants with essential sewing skills and critical knowledge on human rights, migrant worker rights, women’s rights, Thailand Labor Law, relevant government departments for Thai workers, and ways to solve common problems between employers and workers.
Participants discussed the course’s strengths, including its comprehensive curriculum, accessibility, real-life problem-solving sessions, and supportive trainers, alongside its weaknesses, such as the short course duration, the need for more advanced sewing techniques, and limited resources. Post-training, several trainees were successfully placed in workplaces, enabling them to apply their skills and achieve financial independence, thus marking the initiative as a significant success in empowering individuals and fostering their personal and professional growth.
