NMF has been offering vocational training to give Burmese democracy and human-rights actors opportunities in order to give Burmese pro-democracy activists the skills they need to access Mae Sot labor markets.
The NMF in cooperation with the Women Lead Resource Center-WLRC offered the “Basic Motor Sewing Machine Training ” starting on February 1st, 2022.
Five-day basic motor sewing machine training was offered to the trainees from batch 1 to 19. Starting from training batch 20 to 26, the training period was increased to 10 days per batch. 255 trainees in total including 107 male and 148 female trainees, were accepted into the basic motor sewing machine training batch 1 to 26. A total of 206 trainees, including 94 men and 112 women, have been provided jobs at the garment factories in MaeSot.
This basic motor sewing machine training is really helpful for Burmese pro-democracy activists in Mae Sot to find job opportunities. However, finding funds to cover the fees of this training is challenging. Only a small amount of aid from “Australian Aid” was received and there was no support from other funders.
Therefore, NMF respectfully requests that individuals in the international community donate as much as they can to the basic motor sewing machine training costs. If this training can go on, Burmese pro-democracy activists in Maesot will be able to find the jobs they need and acquire the skills they need to support themselves.
Money can be sent directly to the New Myanmar Foundation’s bank account if individuals of International are willing to support the NMF’s ongoing basic motor sewing machine training program. An honorary certificate will be given to the donors.
