Hairdressing Training (Batch 2)
The New Myanmar Foundation conducted its second Women Hairdressing Training Batch from October 10, 2022, to November 11, 2022, with 10 internally displaced women (IDPs) participating. Over five weeks, the women learned essential skills in shampooing, hair cutting, straightening, curling, digital curling, hair dyeing, and hair straightening through practical and field practice sessions. Concurrently, the Men Hairdressing Training Batch (2) was held from October 10, 2022, to November 11, 2022, for 10 IDP men. This five-week program covered the basics of shampooing, haircuts, hair dyeing, hair highlighting, and face washing, blending lectures with hands-on experience.
Job opportunities were presented to five male and eight female trainees from batch 2, showcasing the training’s success in enhancing employability. Despite these achievements, the programs faced challenges, including limited access to professional-grade equipment, which affected the quality of practice sessions. Inconsistent attendance due to the unstable living conditions of IDPs also posed a significant obstacle, as did the varying skill acquisition rates among participants, necessitating additional support and follow-up sessions. Nonetheless, the training programs significantly empowered the IDP participants by providing them with valuable vocational skills and improving their job prospects, contributing to their economic independence and resilience.
