The New Myanmar Foundation (NMF), with the support of Canada Embassy, conducted a five-day online Digital Literacy and Security Training (Batch 1) from August 22 to August 26, 2022, attended by 25 participants (10 males and 15 females). The training, aimed at advocates for democracy and human rights, sought to enhance participants’ digital literacy and security. Objectives included improving digital skills and mitigating security risks. The interactive methodology featured pre-and post-tests, PowerPoint presentations, and participatory handouts, fostering active engagement and feedback. 

Participants, selected based on their involvement in various advocacy fields, gender equality, organisational representation, age, and regional diversity, learned about operating systems, cyber security, internet functionality, VPNs, email services, Google applications, encrypted messaging apps, social media security, and website building. The hands-on instruction covered office programs, cloud storage, and information protection on social media. Despite challenges like poor internet connectivity and power outages, participants reported improved digital security knowledge, better information protection capabilities, and increased efficiency in digital tasks. Monitoring and evaluation through surveys showed significant improvement in digital security knowledge and practices, with participants expressing satisfaction and recognizing the training’s practical benefits.
