English Language Training (June 28-July 29,2022)
From June 28 to July 29, 2022, the New Myanmar Foundation (NMF) conducted an online English Language Training, with the support of FHI 360, for 33 refugees, migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) who fled to Maesot, Thailand, and inside Burma due to military junta violations, consisting of 19 males, 10 females, and 4 others. The training aimed to enhance English language proficiency to increase job opportunities and overcome language barriers. Over 40 hours of interactive online classes, group discussions, role-playing activities, and audio-visual aids, participants significantly improved their basic English language skills, enabling better communication and integration into the local community.
The training also opened up better job opportunities and reduced language barriers in accessing services and navigating daily life. Despite challenges like initial language barriers and technical issues, the training successfully achieved its objectives, with participants reporting greater confidence and integration. Continued support and similar initiatives are recommended to further strengthen the language proficiency and well-being of refugees, migrants, and IDPs in Maesot and Burma.
