On March 31, 2022, New Myanmar Foundation (NMF) and its partner, Women Lead Resource Center (WLRC)  held an on-ground Land Rights and Agriculture Awareness Sharing session for eleven local Burmese migrant farmers in Thailand. The objectives were to promote land rights awareness, strengthen farmers’ resilience, and educate them on organic farming, climate change, and their land rights status. Farmers shared their experiences and challenges as migrants, many without legal work permits, working low-wage, tiring jobs. They included those who fled after the 1988 revolution, the 2007 Saffron Revolution, and the recent 2021 military coup.

The training aimed to promote land rights awareness and assist marginalized migrant farmers on the Myanmar-Thai border. It also sought to build their capacity through education, technical support, and community linkages. The outcomes included strengthened social networks among farmers and connections with local NGOs and authorities. Activities encompassed promoting women’s rights and land rights, conducting monthly awareness discussions and campaigns, and building farmers’ capacity through education and technical support. Monthly on-ground sessions provided knowledge and support for seeds, land leases, ploughing, and fertilizers, enhancing the farmers’ agricultural practices and resilience.
