Requesting Donation for NMF’s Thai Language Program

Jan 13, 2023 | Language Training

For Burmese activists in Maesot and Thailand striving for democracy and human rights, the New Myanmar Foundation has been providing free online Thai language classes since March 2022. The language barrier is one of the many challenges Burmese residents in Maesot and Thailand must overcome. To help Burmese pro-democracy actors deal with daily social issues, and security concerns in Thai while living in Thailand, and to get the ability to request assistance in Thai in case of a medical emergency, Thai language classes are being made available online for them.

Thai language course plays an important role for Burmese people in Maesot and Thailand. However, there are funding difficulties to continue opening this course. NMF’s Thai language course was taught by a full-time teacher from 1 to 3 batches of the course. The instructor will be paid a monthly honorarium for each batch of training. Additionally, Zoom Account Fees must be paid on a regular basis because the courses are online. No assistance from any fundraisers was given for this course. Thai language training costs Thai Baht (12,000) per month or USD (350) $.

Therefore, NMF respectfully requests that Burmese individuals in the international community and Maesot donate as much as they can to Thai training costs.
